Real owners. Real deals. No duds.
A dud is a product that fails, disappoints, or costs more than it should. Dudproof exists so you don’t buy one.
Dudproof helps you choose everyday products — kitchen appliances, air purifiers, vacuums, headphones and more — by pulling together the best evidence that already exists and showing our work.
What we do
Most “best of” lists ask you to trust them. We’d rather show you why. For every guide we:
- Read the lab results from independent testers who measure things in controlled conditions (for example Wirecutter, Serious Eats, America’s Test Kitchen, HouseFresh and RTINGS), and link to each one so you can check.
- Check government safety records, including U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls and, where available, efficiency data from ENERGY STAR.
- Look for how products fail: owner reports on forums like Reddit, repair-shop data and warranty terms, so you know what tends to go wrong — not just what goes right.
- Compare specs and running costs using manufacturer specifications and public data, with the math shown.
- Give a plain verdict, including who should not buy each product.
What we don’t do
We don’t test products in person. We don’t have a lab, and we won’t pretend to. Every guide says so at the top, and tells you exactly which sources we used instead. When testers disagree, we tell you that too.
We also don’t accept payment for placement, don’t publish sponsored reviews, and don’t show Amazon customer reviews or star ratings.
Our badges and series
- DudProof Pick: our top recommendation in a guide. It is the product the evidence says is least likely to be a dud for most people.
- Owner Proof: the owner-evidence section of every guide: what real owners report, including how products fail.
- Dud Alert: recalls, safety notices and known failure patterns.
- Dud Watch: products and prices we’re tracking for changes, complaints and price drops.
- Deal or Dud: our quick verdict on whether a sale price is actually worth it.
- The Dud List: our yearly roundup of popular products the evidence says to skip.

When you buy through some links on our site, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide which product wins. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure.
Who we are
Dudproof is an independent, reader-supported publication founded in 2026. A person reviews every guide and checks its claims against the linked sources before it’s published. We’ll add editor and expert-reviewer bios here as the team grows, and we’ll never publish invented people or fake credentials.
